Stories of success from hardship move readers. And when an author has experienced hardships, as well as memorable life experiences, one knows the books the author writes will be just as exciting. Such is the case with Mo Hayder. While the research I found on her may seem vague, from what I have found, I know she's gone through a lot. After leaving school at age 15, she worked several odd jobs. Such as a barmaid, security-guard, filmmaker, hostess in a Tokyo club, and teacher of English as a foreign language. Through these experiences she has grown, and she now channels her life tales to her highly acclaimed Jack Caffey novels.

Jack Caffery
1. Birdman (1999)
2. The Treatment (2001)
3. Ritual (2008)
4. Skin (2009)

Other Novels
Tokyo (2004) aka The Devil of Nanking
Pig Island (2006)

I think her earlier works were pretty good, but her more recent ones such as the Ritual were abit different. She might have just went off on the wrong path with that one. I lent one of her books to a friend, and the next day he returned it to me stating, "This is a very dark book. Some of stuff that she describes is a bit off the wall." I guess he's not use to reading gruesome stuff on paper, anyway Im sure she's been through alot, as an honest reader i think shes a very good writer.

Sometimes " Off the wall " in books makes them more interesting, as long as it is done right. It can make or break an authors style depending on how it is used.

Thats true, Jeff. Maybe she just pulled it off, as shes got another book coming out. How do you feel about JP's new book coming out fairly soon The Murder of King Tut?
